Dentures are prosthetic devices constructed to replace missing teeth and their associated functions within the oral cavity. They are designed to closely resemble natural teeth and gums, restoring both the appearance and functionality of the mouth. Dentures are supported by the surrounding soft and hard tissues of the oral cavity, providing stability and support for eating, speaking, and smiling. There are two main types of dentures: partial dentures and complete dentures. Partial dentures are used when some natural teeth remain, while complete dentures are used when all natural teeth are missing. Partial dentures consist of replacement teeth attached to a gum-colored base, which is often made of acrylic or a combination of acrylic and metal. The base is designed to blend in with the natural gum tissue and may have metal clasps or other attachments that secure the denture to the remaining natural teeth.
